Sunday 2nd September saw the first ever Champions League football tournament for the Eastern Counties here at Chestnut Avenue. Seven top teams from Northampton, Corby and Cambridge as well as two teams representing the Peterborough Junior Alliance battled it out for the ultimate honour. The Mayor the Rightworship Mayor of Peterborough Cllr Marion Todd and the consort and husband Patrick made the crucial draw for the matches. Although goals were hard to come by, the teams played some excellent football. Wisbech St Mary won the initial group and gained that first spot in the final. Northampton Soccer Stars and Cambridge Fulbourn Falcons fought out a tight semi-final with the Cambs team gaining a win after penalties. The final went to penalties again with Fulbourn coming out on top. David Oxer the sponsor of Hereward Teamwear and Trophies presented the trophies to the finalists. We were also greatful to 442 magazine for supplying magazines for the players.
